The M10 Military & Police (M&P), which uses .38spl bullets, has produced many derivative models throughout its long history. In 1947, the K-38 Target Masterpiece, a 6-inch barrel with a movable rear sight, was released and highly praised. The K-38 Combat Masterpiece, which shortened the barrel to 4 inches based on that, was born in response to requests from the FBI and others. "K-38" means frame size K, .38spl specification. After the war, it was given the model number M15 (the 6-inch Target Masterpiece was M14), and was widely used by police and military forces until the late 1980s, becoming one of S&W's representative "military and police revolvers" along with the M10.
In real life, the .357 mag version of the .M15, the M19, tends to be overshadowed and underrated, but the M15 is undoubtedly a masterpiece that is regarded as one of the finest .38spl revolvers ever produced by S&W.
